Calling London techies and creatives thinking of moving to Bristol or Bath

Are you a London-based creative person interested in pursuing or building on a career in the digital or tech sector, but not necessarily wanting to stay in the congested capital? Maybe it’s time you considered moving to one of the most vibrant city regions to further (or start) your career – Bristol and Bath.

Why Bristol and Bath?

Here at TechSPARK we know there’s a very good reason why so many tech and creative companies are relocating from the Big Smoke to the West of England. The Bristol and Bath region is already home to hundreds of digital and tech startups and established companies specialising in robotics, gaming, animation, 3D printing, advanced materials, drones, internet-of-things devices, aerospace, television and video broadcasting and green tech, to name just a few disciplines we’ve covered!

You can check out the Bristol & Bath tech and digital companies cluster map to see the breadth of tech and digital companies to get an idea of the opportunities the region offers.

As you can see, there are loads of big tech and digital names already located here (for example, Aardman, the BBC Natural History Unit, Cray supercomputers, Huawei, Just Eat, Ovo, Somo and Strava) and more arriving all the time. And what separates this region apart is the people involved in these industries aren’t locked in closed communities but are often those who love to share and talk about their ideas and the possibilities they present. You only have to look at our tech events calendar to see the networks of people keen to talk about and share their ideas, and collaborate on new ventures.

And there are lots of places who specialise in starting and growing companies too – there are many tech business incubators, collaborative co-working spaces and fun creative projects to get involved with such as Bristol Games Hub, Playable Cities and the Pervasive Media Studio as well as international conferences such as VR World Congress, Vision and Social Media Week Bristol.

What about the lifestyle?

Scared of missing out on what London has to offer? Don’t be – Bristol and Bath have often topped lists of the best places to live in the UK. You can enjoy the idyllic countryside and scenery while still being able to take advantage of one of the most vibrant city regions in terms of culture. Whether it’s Bristol’s incredible music scene, street art, green spaces, harbourside eateries, regular music, food and balloon festivals, not to mention 90-metre waterslides occasionally taking over major city streets; or Bath’s coffee shop culture, fashion shops and top-class cuisine based in a gorgeous UNESCO World Heritage site, there is no shortage of things to do.

Have we convinced you? To get help and talk about the business opportunities in the West of England, you can get in contact with Invest Bristol & Bath – and you can keep up to date with what’s happening in the region by following them on Twitter: @InvestBrisBath.
