Are you looking to take your business products or services overseas? UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) and Business West are urging business of all sizes with big ambitions to be the next Dyson, Aardman Animations, Yeo Valley or Trunki to attend its ExploreExport 2015 to be held at Ashton Gate in Bristol on 11 November.
“The South West has so much to offer the rest of the world. We have a fascinating array of interesting startups, small companies and growth businesses based here”
The stats prove it’s worth looking at overseas markets: the total value of South West exports increased 5.6% to £14.5 billion this year. If you want to try to add to that figure, Explore Export gives you the chance to connect with exporting experts from countries from all four corners of the globe including high growth markets such as Brazil, Russia, India and China, mature markets such as US and Australia and new emerging economies such as Afghanistan and Cuba.
Russell Jones, Regional Director, UKTI comments: “The South West has so much to offer the rest of the world. We have a fascinating array of interesting startups, small companies and growth businesses based here filling much-needed gaps in the international market. UKTI’s agenda is to promote UK goods and services to all four corners of the globe. If you have a business you are ambitious about you need to be at this event. ”
It does seem to be a great time to try out international markets. The UKTI believes there is an unbelievable appetite for British products and services overseas at the moment and there has never been a more opportune time to take advantage of these commercial opportunities.
One person the UKTI has previously helped export his product overseas is Matt Thurling of CPD for Teachers, a Bristol-based entrepreneur and founder of a national training school for teachers, coaching them on how to teach coding.
CPD for Teachers in action: Matt and a team of experts from
Bristol’s engineering and digital sectors devised ways of teaching
computer science in engaging ways to young people – it clearly works!
Matt says: “What I’ve come to realise with the exporting process is that you learn on the job.You might make mistakes but your learnings might just strengthen what you do in your home market as well.”
“If I could give one piece of advice to entrepreneurs considering export then it would be to pick up the phone to UKTI”
Matt is happy to recommend the UKTI if you are considering going into exporting yourself, even if you can’t make the event: “Everyone working for UKTI has been incredibly helpful. They go way beyond the brief. We still have a long way to go in the US but this process has also made me truly believe there is a huge amount of opportunity for my services in other global markets and I will be embracing these possibilities in the near future.
“If I could give one piece of advice to entrepreneurs considering export then it would be to pick up the phone to UKTI. What have you got to lose?”
You can sign up for the event which costs £50 + VAT per person at the ExploreExport 2015 website. For more info on exporting (and a whole lot more) pop along to the UKTI contact page.
