I in 5 entrants to large sporting events such as triathlons ans other running and cycling races fail to even reach the start line, and Bristol-based startup In Your Stride wants to change that. Its iOS app focuses 100% on giving athletes what they need to reach their race goals as they launch the world’s first Adaptive Training Plans – offering the ability to fit your training plan around your life.

“We’ve been named as one of the top 6 running apps by Men’s Running Magazine”

They have just launched a fund-raising campaign on Crowdcube which has already reached 60% funding in a few days, so we caught up with founder Shaun Lancaster to find out what they plan to do with the money if they reach their total: “This investment round will enable us to to do two major things,” explains Shaun. “Firstly develop version 2 of Adaptive Coaching Engine so we can launch our subscription model and expand our market reach with web and Android-based plans. It would then enable integration with wearables, which is essential given the growth in that area.

“Secondly to grow our UK and North American partnerships, which would give us access to an additional 1.2 million UK runners alone. Having generated over 50 partnerships to date, we now need to invest time in securing more.”

“It’s great to see so many runners using our platform to achieve their goals; with a user split of 40/60 male to female”

In your stride-appInterest in the app has been high, as Shaun explains, “Since we launched our iOS beta in May, we’ve been named as one of the top 6 running apps by Men’s Running Magazine. We’ve now seen over 1,100 runners setting up custom, adaptive training plans all heading toward their race goals in September and October. It’s great to see so many runners using our platform to achieve their goals; with a user split of 40/60 male to female.”” And those over 50 partnerships mentioned earlier include the likes of Mizuno, Sweatshop, Newton Running, Vitality Oxford Half Marathon and Ikano Robin Hood marathon.

Shaun feels it’s the right time to grow the business in this way as, “The global mass participation sports market is growing fast and events are becoming more diverse, which is attracting people from all walks of life to participate and achieve a personal goal. Our Adaptive Coaching Platform is changing the way people train for an event by addressing the reasons why so many fall off traditional training plans. An incredible 1 in 5 fail to reach the start line!”

In Your Stride is part of the Bristol-based tech incubator WebStart Bristol and Webstart enabled them to bring the idea to life and build a proof of concept. It has also invested in them – twice!

Shaun is excited about the app’s future: “The market is buoyant; recent acquisitions have seen major brands like Under Armour and Adidas spending between $85 million and $475 million to acquire top running/fitness apps and developers. Our core focus is adaptive training, so we occupy a unique position in this market and interface with main tracking apps and wearables, rather than compete.”

We’d like to thank Shaun for talking to us and you can see more on In Your Stride at the In Your Stride crowdfund campaign or by checking out the In Your Stride website or by following them on Twitter: @InYourStrideApp.
